What is the difference between a chiropodist and a podiatrist?
While you may think chiropodists and podiatrists are different, they are actually the same thing, with the terms being used interchangeably. Both are healthcare professionals who specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of foot problems and conditions.
In the past, chiropodists primarily focused on treating skin and nail conditions of the feet, while podiatrists had a broader scope of practice that included biomechanics and orthotics. However, in recent years, the terms have become more synonymous, and both chiropodists and podiatrists now offer a wide range of foot care services.
When should I see a podiatrist/chiropodist?
We recommend booking an appointment if you are experiencing any foot pain, discomfort, or changes in the appearance of your feet. Our podiatrists can help diagnose the underlying cause of your symptoms and provide appropriate foot care treatment.
How often should I see a Podiatrist/Chiropodist?
Just like you visit your dentist for regular check-ups, seeing a Podiatrist on a regular basis can help prevent and detect any foot conditions before they become more serious. Some patients choose to come every 6-8 weeks, others may only visit once a year.
We recommend you see a Podiatrist/Chiropodist at least once a year for a routine check-up. Or as soon as possible if you have a specific foot condition that needs attention. Your Podiatrist will be able to advise you on how often you should come in based on your needs.
What does a podiatrist do on a first visit?

Can a podiatrist remove a toenail?
If your Podiatrist/Chiropodist determines that your toe can be treated non-surgically, they will trim the nail or remove the spike to prevent ingrowing. If conservative treatment is not an option or if the condition recurs, a minor surgical procedure may be necessary.
